Alexis Rodriguez Hybrid Number Two

In the hybrid model below I took the S shape from the beginning abstract models and used it in a section. At the same time, I used a broken linear path to connect the building to it's pier. I want to expand on the exploration of the S symmetry that I used in section and since we need to enforce anti-flood measures the play might take play in the way of positive and negative spaces.

Alexis Rodriguez Experimental Hybrid

This was an experiment that I tried playing with the contours and site footprint that is provided by Oasis. The main structure in the front (far left on the image below) follows the site lines that have been offset inwards by 15 feet. The black cardboard piece would be a linear path that people would take to go from the building onto the dock.

Alexis Rodriguez Hybrid Model Number One

In the images below I tried to abstract several different models and in the process of dissecting each abstract model I created this piece below. For this I have the brown elements as different heights and levels of a main structure. The long spiral would be a connection path that connects the building to the outdoor rockclimbing wall.

Alexis Rodriguez Assignment 10B: Study Models- Connection

For these abstract models the word which drove me forward was a connection in nature to us and as many things in the world we live exists symmetry but it isn't always a perfect match so that's the concept behind these models.
This abstract model consists of wood types to bring nature into the our world, Originally I had all the wooden toothpicks aligned along the same side with alternating heights, but this felt too bland so I altered the original. I turned the solid structure onto it's side and kept the alternating heights but now place the toothpicks into it's side to show that even though the symmetry is clear it doesn't exist on only one plane.

In this model I kept the idea of dissimilar symmetry and used an L shaped from to give the idea that even though things are symmetrical they still are different. I liked using these spines as the general framework and they might make their appearance in the final model.

In this final model of connection I wanted to try not to just have spikes piercing through the material but to have curves to embrace the site more gently. Also by having the curves sloping down away from the main structure I'm sure it would create an interesting form that people would find appealing contrary to the flat roofed structures currently in the area.

Alexis Rodriguez Assignment 10C: Study Models- Inspiration

These study models all drew inspiration from the collage in the upper left hand corner. From researching the area and seeing how many different types of  lifestyles, backgrounds, and age groups and seeing how an event can bring everyone together brought forth an element of multiple strands combining into one final piece. The only one of the models from above that didn't derive from the sense of coming from many to one is the image on the bottom right, this study model was made from an abstraction of the hands.
This abstract model came from the idea that the neighborhood holds so many different types of people and takes them into a journey which leads them all to one final point, Red Hook.
In this model I drew inspiration not only from my research but also from fingers crossing each other. I kept the point where it all leads to a final path because I feel as though the neighborhood of Red Hook does this through their existence so I should make that a consistent feeling through the addition of my Recreation Center.
Lastly this model, exemplifies the palms embracing that come together to hold the heart of Red Hook,  although I don't see this becoming a structure I do see this as a potential piece of art or a type of fountain.
