1. Which building typology are you researching?
The type of infrastructure that I intend to introduce to the area is a recreation center that would be open to all ages.
2. Why are you researching this building typology?
The reasoning behind my decision comes from our trip to the area, there is little to no activity and the parks in the area are more leisure oriented. I believe the area would prosper from opening a recreation center which would bring people in from surrounding areas to use the facilities. Also this building will be put into the community as a hurricane center that can help shield the community better than before its existence.
3. What is the specialty of this building type you would like to research?
The specialty of this typology will be public health and the promotion of activities that will help keep people active and healthy.
4. What are the examples that you are researching?
a. The New Recreation Center of Eureka, Missouri, Unites States.
b. Sports and Leisure Center in Saint-Cloud, in Paris, France.
c. Arapahoe Park and Recreation, @ Centennial, CO, United States.

d. Student Recreation Center @ W. Chester University, Pennsylvania, U.S.
e. Student Recreation Center @ Boise State University, in Boise, Idaho, U.S.
f. Daskalakis Athletic Center @ Drexel University, in Philadelphia, U.S.
g. Fitness and Recreation Center @ Boston University, Boston, Massachusetts, U.S.
h. Campus Recreation Center, in Cincinnati, Ohio
i. Laramie Community Recreation Center, in Laramie, Wyoming.
j. Blue Ash Recreation Center in Ohio, United States.

5. What are your goals for working with this building type?
My goal for working with this building type would be to produce a building that would benefit the community.
6. What are the program elements that you see included at this point in your building?
· Pool
· Gym
· Track
· Classes for work outs, gardening etc.
· Basketball courts, Football/soccer fields, Baseball field.
This is a great start. Try to find all of the examples that have plans, or other types of drawings along with images.
ReplyDeleteDo you have an idea how your building will connect with the rest of Brooklyn or New York? Are there opportunities for working with the water?
This is another example that you might want to look at. Also if you could visit Asphalt Green, on the Upper east side you get a better sense of sizes etc.

Your post is not showing up that well - seems to be showing in html?
ReplyDeleteAlexis, the formatting of your post is a bit off and rather distracting. To edit your post copy the text into notepad and paste it back again into the post. That should replace the formatting to basic formatting with no tabs. Let me know if you have any questions.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I don't see your site analysis. Please post it as soon as possible.

ReplyDeleteHello Alexis,
DeleteAppears to be a good start on the initial analysis. I particularly like your site sketch and nieghbourhood context images. I agree with the comments above, regarding site analysis, as it is important to draw on 'a sense of place' and 'physical site' to properly inform your conceptual development. This does not limit the 'idea' but adds a deeper association of the building to its context (even if reflecting or opposing the local environment).
Looking forward to you project development.
